Lance joined the Prison Service in 1986 as a workshop Instructor at HMP Maidstone following an apprenticeship in the print industry. He is Commercial Business Manager at the New Futures Network, a specialist part of the prison service which was set up to broker partnerships between businesses and prisons, with responsibility for the manufacturing sector. He supports prison governors in their role to enhance offender’s employment prospects upon release. Lance does this through supporting business to take forward opportunities in prison such as in industries workshops. They produce goods and services for companies outsourcing production, as well as for internal needs.

Mackay graduated with an MEng from Warwick University and also holds an MBA. He is a Fellow of the IET, which offers him the opportunity to augment the business mentoring professional engineers.
